The Latest News from Kavaleer
Hasan Everywhere
November 6, 2009 at 2:11 pm by Andrew Kavanagh
Kavaleer’s latest short film ‘Hasan Everywhere’ wrapped production yesterday just in time for its screening at the Corona Cork International Film Festival this Saturday.
The film details the friendship between an Israeli novelist (Dorit Rabinyan) and a Palestinian artist (Hasan Hourani) from their first meeting in New York in the winter of 2002 to 6th August 2003, when Hasan tragically drowned near the Port of Jaffa. The film is inspired by Dorit’s eulogy to Hasan ‘The Exile’s Return’ which was published in the Guardian in April 2003 and Hasan’s own unfinished childrens book, the eponymous ‘Hasan Everywhere’. This highly personal film is the culmination of two years work and research, and the end of a journey that began for me in October 2007 in New York, and took me to Tel Aviv, Ramallah and London to meet Hasan’s friends and family. It has been an extraordinary privilege to make this film and I have loved every minute of the experience. If you can make it along, the world premiere takes place at the Irish Film Board Screening, 4PM Saturday 7th November at the Grand Opera House in Cork City.
